Winter

Located between Lake Geneva in Switzerland and Mont Blanc in France, skiing in the Portes du Soleil offers a vast and beautiful setting to enjoy your favourite winter sports in the Alps.

You can book lessons with ESF – Chatel Ski School, and we highly recommend you book in advance of your holiday. You can also check out this piste guide thanks to The Telegraph.

Pré-la-Joux and Super Châtel

Beginners, children and families will love Pré-la-Joux and Super Châtel which offer some lovely green runs and alpine skiing. There are some easy blue runs too across Switzerland and France. Just jump on the free bus to the Portes du Soleil ski lift and into Super Châtel.

Linga and Plaine Dranse

Intermediates will enjoy Linga and Plaine Dranse which have some of the best red runs on the circuit. Those who consider themselves moderately skilled will be able to complete the Portes du Soleil circuit without any issues and will also love the runs around Les Lindarets (a very cute little village you can ski through) and Morgins. One of our favourite runs to look out for is Les Brochaux into Avoriaz.

"le mur suisse" aka the Swiss Wall

Experts can try one of the world’s most difficult and fascinating pistes – the “le mur suisse” aka the Swiss Wall. We have only seen it from afar but those that have been down it confirm it’s a challenge! It can be reached from the French resort of Avoriaz and from the Swiss towns of Les Crosets and Champéry. Other pistes include the Torgon Freeride, which is a controlled off piste zone.
